Punching At The Sun

I'm quite excited about the 2006 San Francisco (and San Jose) Asian American International Film Festival this year (as I am every year). And now we have the absolute right place to write about it. I really wish that there were more showings down in the Bay Area because it's just too difficult to get up into the city on a week night after a long day of work.

But I'll take what I can get down in the south bay and will feature all of the movies playing down in San Jose (and maybe a few from our West-Coast-Asian-Mecca neighbor to the north).

So here we go....

A young South Asian American teenager copes with personal and social demons during one hot summer in Queens. Examining the lives of desi youth in urban America, the film is a powerful meditation on identity, racism and redemption. This will be showing at the San Jose opening on March 24th (ah perfect, a Friday night!). After the screening there will be a reception which I'll probably attend along with my wife Hongyun. We hope to see you all there.
